Week five, and the rapid-fire pace of committee work continues nonstop. Any bills not assigned to or that do not pass oversight committees this week are effectively off the table for the First Session of the 60th Legislature. They can be reintroduced next year for consideration. Four of my priority bills have advanced through the two-committee process and now are eligible to be heard on the House floor. Unfortunately, my House Bill 1411, which would have designated the True Grit Trail, is one that will not be heard this session. I was able to advance it through the subcommittee but not get it heard in full Appropriations & Budget.
Stealing property deeds through fraudulent means, such as using dishonest notaries, is a subject I’m hearing much about. A bill is being considered in the Senate on ways to address this issue. I have verified that the Pittsburg County Clerk’s office has a software program that will notify anyone by email of any activity concerning their deed. Check with the clerk for assistance in signing up for this program.
Fraudulent texts seeming to originate from the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority that you owe past due tolls also are making the rounds lately. I actually received one on my personal phone. OTA does not send out text for money owed. Please do not click on any links to try to clear this up as it is fraud at its worst. Call the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and report this activity. They will shut that website down, but I’m confident another one will appear. Stay vigilant.
This Friday, I will attend the groundbreaking for AT&T providing internet service for the Spanish American War Colony south of Wilburton. This service is long overdue as we have so many areas in Latimer county void of reliable internet service. This is a good start.
As always, thank You for allowing me to serve you. I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
