Connecting dots is one of the roles I serve as a legislator, and this past week was one of those moments.
I was invited to McAlester Regional Hospital for a check presentation from U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Rural Development for a check presentation ,but what I didn’t know was that this check would be presented by Kenneth Corn, who heads USDA Rural Development for the state of Oklahoma. This presented an opportunity to visit with him about financing opportunities for Latimer County Hospital. We had a very good impromptu meeting and will meet again in the near future.
Saturday was all about honoring our veterans with parades in Hartshorne and Wilburton and with a lunch event at the Wilburton VFW. I was honored to have been asked to take on a role in this event and be given an opportunity to express my thanks to all our veterans. It was a great event and a good day. Since the flyover was canceled, I was assured that we would be at the top of the list for next year’s parade. Hartshorne’s parade has really grown into an annual event for all ages.
Monday evening was all about the cattle industry as the Eastern Oklahoma State College hosted the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Association area fall gathering. It was well attended, and there were some very good discussions about our industry as a whole. As a lifelong cattleman, I believe this industry is very important to our state’s well-being.
On Wednesday, I will be sworn into the 59th Oklahoma Legislature, along with 100 other state representatives. It is always exciting to start a new session with several new members and new ideas. I’m looking forward to working with them.
