Happy Thanksgiving House District 17!

It’s hard to believe with all of the warm weather we’ve had recently that it’s already time to celebrate this holiday and prepare for the next ones.

I’m thankful for many things this year.

On the government side of things, I’m thankful the federal government is reopen and people are feeling less of the pinch from the shutdown. I’m thankful our interim studies are over in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. We learned some valuable lessons about property taxes, rising insurance costs, energy sources and much more. Now, we’re beginning to see bills being filed for next year. Because February will start the Second Session of the 60th Legislature, we can still consider bills that did not make it all the way through the legislative process during out last session.

On the personal side, I’m always glad to get to spend time with my family for Thanksgiving, to eat some great food, to watch some football. I’m thankful for the bounty on my table, the hay in my barns, the cattle in my fields. But I’m also well aware of those who are less fortunate, and I always make it a point to give to those in need. I know many of my constituents feel the same way and give generously this time of year.

It seems like Thanksgiving is the official kickoff for the Christmas season. People will be out picking out their Christmas trees and starting the decorating. Many folks enjoy Black Friday shopping. We’ll start hearing Christmas music everywhere we go.

No matter what your holiday traditions, I hope you make some great memories this year. Be blessed!

As always, I’m thankful to the constituents of House District 17 for allowing me to serve. If I can help you in any way, I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
