Jim Grego serves District 17 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Latimer County and parts of LeFlore and Pittsburg counties.

Well Election Day is here as I write this column. I don’t have any idea at this time as to who won and who didn’t. My hope now is that we move forward and build a better Oklahoma and United States of America; we all know this is truly what the voters want.

Congratulations to Titus Montgomery of Red Oak FFA for being named the National Champion in Agriculture Communications Entrepreneurship/Placement. This is big when one of our own can compete on the national level against FFA members across the country. Titus served as a page a couple of years ago, and there is no doubt the sky is the limit for this young man.  Wilburton’s FFA Livestock judging team also excelled in Indianapolis, and congratulations to them as well. I plan to honor them on the House floor next session for this accomplishment.

This Friday, Nov. 8, we will dedicate a bridge approximately seven miles west of Wilburton to the honor of Marine Lt. Cpl. Anthony Botello. Lt. Cpl. Botello died in service to our country Jan 26, 1993, in the Somali capital of Mogadishu. This bridge dedication was a request from his mother Ann, and I am proud I could play a small role in keeping his memory alive in our hearts. The dedication will begin at 10 a.m. Hopefully, many of his friends and family who still reside in the local area will be able to make it.

Next Monday is Veteran’s Day. Let us never forget all who have served our country throughout the years in order to help secure the freedoms and liberties we take for granted. If you don’t do anything else, take a moment and thank a veteran for their service. Veterans are not hard to find as they are all around us, and we owe each and every one a debt of gratitude.

As always, thank You for allowing me to serve you. I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
