Again, another attempted act of political violence makes the news. As a society we have to make this unacceptable. Whether you agree with the candidates or disagree, all sides have the right to be heard in the United States of America.
Happy Constitution week everyone. This is a document we take for granted too often and rarely celebrate. It always amazes me that such an instrument written so many years ago is so relevant today.
I attended a community meeting in Yanush last week. There is a lot of apprehension about what the future of this community holds. Land is selling in the local area for upscale residences or vacation homes. There also is some talk about some neighboring cities that might want to annex. Lots of rumors going around. One common thread I have been hearing is that no one wants this community to experience the rapid growth of some of our neighbors to the south.
House Bill 2914 is becoming a reality. This bill appropriated $18 million to support our local sheriff departments in all 77 counties. I was pleased to see that Pittsburg County will receive $300,000 while Latimer county receives $150,000. The different categories are determined by tax bases for each county. So many times in rural Oklahoma the local sheriff is our only call for assistance.
As our current administration pushes for more and more electric vehicles as a way to save our planet, I was amused to read where some cyber truck owners are reporting premature tire wear probably due to increased weights. One report suggested changing tires every 6,000 miles, I have to wonder about total savings on the environment when we might save a small amount of fuel but we increase tire production tenfold.
