(POTEAU, OKLAHOMA) – A Public Economic Summit on “The Health of the LeFlore County Economy” is scheduled on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 beginning at 1:15 pm at the Donald W. Reynold Center 501 South Broadway – Poteau.

The summit will feature key speakers from LeFlore County and the State of Oklahoma.

Key points will be a review of the past 27 years of economic history related to employment, jobs, and shut downs and relocations that were a part of the County’s economic past.

Speakers will also look at how our economic future looks and who will be the job makers and who could be the job killers as both the county and state move forward.

Oklahoma Department of Commerce will address the public on the importance of what and who helps our local economy function and what we can do as individuals to help improve our economy over the next 10 years.

Comments will be made by Carl Albert State College, Kiamichi Technology Center, Poteau Public Schools, Poteau Chamber of Commerce and a list of others.

This will be a great opportunity for those of us living and working in LeFlore County to better understand our economic past history from 1990 - 2017, and more importantly to become more aware and better educated on what all took place so we can learn how to better react as leaders going forward.

In the 90’s LeFlore County saw some of the highest unemployment times in our history and in later years we led the state in the highest of counties with unemployment. This summit will point to different years and what caused unemployment numbers to rise. Leaders will be speaking about what was right helping LeFlore County to gain jobs and increase per capita income.

The goal for 2018 is to move forward as a large community group for the future of LeFlore County working, gaining support and partnership of the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and State Leaders helping to keep the decisions moving forward a positive for LeFlore County.

The session will start at 1:15 and end 3:30 p.m. No RSVP is needed.
