State Senator Warren Hamilton
OKLAHOMA CITY – Two pieces of legislation by Sen. Warren Hamilton, R-McCurtain, have advanced from the House Judiciary and Public Safety Oversight Committee. Senate Bills 599 and 603 are being carried in the House by Rep. Tim Turner, R-Kinta.
Senate Bill 599 ensures the death penalty is a prosecutorial option for criminals convicted of child sex abuse after a first offense.
“There should never be a second chance offered for someone who commits a heinous sexual crime against an innocent child. This is not a mistake, it’s a monstrous, unforgivable act, and nothing can undo the devastation they cause. The only just punishment is the harshest allowed by law, death or life without parole, which will ensure that these predators can never reoffend.” Hamilton said.
Senate Bill 603 requires any action brought as a result of disputes relating to repairs or improvements made on real property or fixtures attached to real property to be brought in the county where the real property is located.
“This legislation is designed to ensure that both contractors and clients have fair and convenient access to the legal system,” Hamilton said. “By allowing disputes to be handled in the county where the work was performed or the contract was executed, we eliminate the burden of traveling to another jurisdiction. This not only streamlines the legal process but also promotes reasonable and efficient resolutions for all parties involved.”
Senator Hamilton extended appreciation to Representative Tim Turner for his efforts to advance these measures.
“I’m incredibly grateful to Representative Turner for his continued collaboration on these pieces of legislation,” Hamilton said. “His extensive law enforcement experience has been essential in shaping these policies. Rep. Turner’s robust debates have been incredibly powerful and compelling, providing invaluable insight on crimes of this nature and helping us determine the best course of action to extend these critical protections to the citizens of our great state.”
The measures are now eligible for consideration on the House floor.
Senator Hamilton represents District 7, which includes communities in Haskell, Latimer, Pittsburg, southern Sequoyah & northwest Leflore counties.
