OKLAHOMA CITY – The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) proudly announced House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson as the distinguished honoree for the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR) at this fall’s 2023 UNL Multicultural Homecoming. This recognition celebrates her outstanding achievements, both professionally and within her community.
Each fall, Multicultural Homecoming events at UNL bring accomplished multicultural alumni back to campus, providing a platform to honor their contributions. Hosted by the Chancellor’s Commission on the Status of People of Color, these events are designed to foster a sense of belonging, create traditions, and facilitate connections between alumni of color and the university.Leader Cyndi Munson, an alumna of CASNR, earned a Master of Science in Leadership Education in 2010. Her selection as the 2023 Multicultural Homecoming honoree for CASNR reflects her exceptional dedication to public service and community engagement. Cyndi has played a pivotal role in the Oklahoma Legislature, where her impactful work has garnered widespread recognition.“When I received the news about the distinguished alumni award, I was completely overwhelmed and in a bit of disbelief,” Munson said. “As a first generation college student, going to graduate school was not something I originally planned to do, but I am grateful I took the opportunity the University of Nebraska-Lincoln offered me. I was part of an exceptional program that prepared me for my career in the nonprofit sector as well as public service. My time at Nebraska also solidified my belief that higher education is worthy of preservation and investment – it changed my life and reminded me that taking a leap, working hard, and persisting when times get tough reap benefits beyond academic achievements, but life achievements too. It is why I will always champion access to higher education for every student. I dedicate this award to my graduate advisors, professors, classmates, and my forever friends who made every moment at Nebraska worth it.
