OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Wildcatters, a professional bull riding team, were acknowledged on the House floor and received a citation from Rep. Eddy Dempsey, R-Valliant, and Sen. Ronald Pederson, R-Burlington, on Wednesday for their involvement in the sport and representation of Oklahoma’s rodeo culture.

As a team competing in the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Team Series, the Wildcatters have quickly made their mark in the world of team-formatted bull riding.

“Oklahoma has a deep-rooted history in rodeo, and the Wildcatters are continuing that tradition while competing at the highest level,” said Rep. Eddy Dempsey, R-Valliant. “Their dedication to the sport of bull riding exemplifies the resilience and commitment that Oklahomans are known for.”

The Oklahoma Wildcatters joined the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Team Series ahead of the 2024 season as one of two expansion teams and have since proudly represented Oklahoma in the high-stakes world of professional bull riding.

In recognition of their contributions to the sport, several members of the organization were present at the State Capitol, including Brandon Bates, CEO of the Oklahoma Wildcatters; J.B. Mauney, Head Coach and two-time PBR World Champion; Talor Gooch, Team Owner and professional golfer on the LIV Tour; and Preston Lyon, Co-Owner of the team.

Bull riding has been a part of Oklahoma’s history, with rodeo traditions dating back before statehood and contributing to the development of the sport. For over two decades, PBR has held events in Oklahoma, supporting local economies and recognizing the sport’s legacy through the PBR Hall of Fame at the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.

The Oklahoma Wildcatters are preparing for the 2025 PBR Team Series in Oklahoma City, where they will compete at a professional level from July 11-13, officially recognized as Oklahoma Wildcatter Days by Governor Kevin Stitt.

Rep. Eddy Dempsey, a Republican, represents House District 1 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes portions of Cleveland, LeFlore and McCurtain counties.
