OKLAHOMA CITY — Rep. Eddy Dempsey, R-Valliant, has been named the 2025 Legislator of the Year by the Oklahoma Rifle Association (ORA) in recognition of his strong support for Second Amendment rights and advocacy for Oklahoma gun owners and enthusiasts.
The ORA, founded in 1927 and incorporated in 1941, is the state affiliate of the National Rifle Association. The group promotes safe and responsible firearm ownership, supports local shooting clubs and competitions and advocates for pro-Second Amendment legislation at the state and federal levels.
In presenting the award, ORA officials praised Dempsey for his legislative efforts noting his dedication to protecting individual rights and strengthening Oklahoma’s firearms community.
“The Oklahoma Rifle Association is pleased to honor Oklahoma Legislators in recognition of their upholding our Second Amendment rights and supporting Oklahoma gun owners and enthusiasts, which are the key principles and mission of the ORA,” said Mark Vaughn, President of the Oklahoma Rifle Association.
Dempsey said he was honored to receive the award.
“The right to keep and bear arms is a fundamental freedom, and I’ll continue to stand up for the constitutional rights of Oklahomans,” Dempsey said. “I appreciate the work the ORA does to support responsible gun ownership and promote our state’s strong firearms traditions.”
For the past two years, the governor has proclaimed an NRA/ORA Day to recognize the organizations’ efforts in defending the Second Amendment in both Oklahoma and across the nation. This year, April 8 was designated as ORA Day at the Oklahoma State Capitol, where Dempsey was formally honored with the Legislator of the Year award.
