Rep. Eddie Dempsey
OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Eddy Dempsey, R-Valliant, continues to demonstrate strong leadership at the State Capitol, successfully advancing five bills through the House that are now moving through Senate committees. These measures focus on strengthening military support, safeguarding agriculture, enhancing government accountability and improving infrastructure.
“Our work at the Capitol is focused on providing solutions that directly benefit the people in our district, protect our freedoms, and drive economic progress,” Dempsey said. “It’s rewarding to see these important measures advancing, and I look forward to their positive impact on our communities and state.”
House Bill 1377 would allow discounts on alcoholic beverages, beer, and wine for members of the U.S. Armed Forces while ensuring fair market competition by maintaining a minimum 6% markup. The bill passed the House with a 60-33 vote and is being carried in the Senate by Sen. Casey Murdock, R-Felt.
House Bill 1378 would expand definitions within the agricultural sales tax exemption to include timber, reinforcing the vital role of Oklahoma’s forestry industry. The measure ensures farmers and ranchers receive the exemptions they need to continue producing resources essential to Oklahoma’s economy. The bill passed the House overwhelmingly, 89-6, and is also sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Casey Murdock.
House Bill 1380 would establish the Insulin Access and Affordability Program under the State Department of Health. By fostering competition and addressing market shortages, the program aims to lower insulin costs for Oklahomans in need and ultimately save lives. The House approved this measure with a 77-13 vote, and Sen. Avery Frix, R-Muskogee, is carrying it in the Senate.
House Bill 1381 would hold the ABLE Commission accountable by requiring an annual report on license revocations, complaints, ticketing and penalties. This increased transparency ensures Oklahoma’s regulatory processes remain fair and effective. The bill passed unanimously, 85-0, and is sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Julie Daniels, R-Bartlesville.
House Bill 1384 would mandate post-installation inspections for storm pipes that bypass a structural dead load test, ensuring Oklahoma’s infrastructure remains reliable and safe. Contractors would be held responsible for inspections and any necessary corrective actions. The House passed the bill with strong support, 81-2, and Sen. Avery Frix, R-Muskogee, is carrying it in the Senate.
“These bills demonstrate a strong dedication to conservative values—backing our military, preserving Oklahoma’s agricultural traditions, reducing bureaucratic obstacles, and ensuring responsible use of taxpayer funds,” Dempsey added. “I am eager to collaborate with my fellow Senators to get these measures passed.”
