OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Rick West, R-Heavener, recognized the Class 2A state champion Howe Lady Lions Basketball Team on the House floor today.

Sen. George Burns, R-Pollard, and Sen. Mark Allen, R-Spiro, also participated in the presentation of a citation to the team.

“Unity, hard work and sacrifice are the hallmarks of this team,” West said. “They’ve represented their school, their family, our community and our entire state with quality of character and sportsmanship, and we’re all so proud of them.”

The Lady Lions had a record this year of 25 wins and only two losses. In addition to their sixth state championship – the fourth under Coach Chris Brown – the team also has won the LeFlore County Basketball Tournament seven years in a row.

“This local tournament is not a Sunday school picnic by any means, but a tough county competition,” West said. “This just further shows the ability of this team.”

West said the team is not only a champion on the basketball court but in the classroom with team members having a 3.99 grade point average.
