OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Rick West congratulated the Hodgen Lady Bulldogs softball team on the House floor of the Oklahoma State Capitol on April 30. The athletes won the 2017 Organization of Rural Elementary Schools (ORES) state fast-pitch softball championship.

“These girls have shown extreme dedication to their sport,” said West, R-Heavener. “They didn’t have a field to practice on or their own jerseys, so they wore basketball jerseys. The determined athletes didn’t let that stand in the way though. Coaches Melody Dunigan and Dustin Hall pushed and encouraged these ladies, and in the end, the Hodgen Lady Bulldogs came out on top. I couldn’t be prouder.”

West presented the team with a citation in front of the Oklahoma House of Representatives. The athletes also met with Speaker of the House Charles McCall and Gov. Mary Fallin.

On May 1, West hosted members of the Leadership LeFlore County program. The group participates in a series of issue-oriented events to encourage successful leaders.

“I’ve gotten to know the men and women of Leadership LeFlore County, and it was a real pleasure to show them around their state Capitol,” West said. “This group’s interest in leading our community gives me great hope for the future of southeastern Oklahoma.”

West represents House District 3, which includes most of LeFlore County.
