Candidates for the Board of Education in 17 Leflore County school districts will file their Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. on Monday, December 2nd and continuing Tuesday and Wednesday, Leflore County Election Board Secretary Sharon Steele said today.
Steele said the official filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4th.
All candidate filings will occur at the Leflore County Election Board office, 103 N. Church St., in Poteau, Steele said.
The Board of Education positions at stake will be filled at the Board of Education
Primary Election scheduled February 11, 2020 and the Board of Education General Election on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the General Election.
If more than two candidates file, a Primary Election will be held.
If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the Primary Election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the General Election.

Arkoma School Dist -Office 5, Bokoshe School Dist-Office 5, Cameron School Dist-Office 5, Fanshawe School Dist. Office 1, Heavener School Dist -Office 5, Hodgen School Dist-Office 1, Howe School Dist-Office 5, Leflore School Dist-Office 5, Monroe School Dist-Office 1, Panama School Dist-Office 5, Pocola School Dist-Office 5, Poteau School Dist.-Office 5, Shady Point School Dist-Office 1 & 3, Spiro School Dist-Office 5, Talihina School Dist. Office 5, Whitesboro School Dist-Office 5, Wister School Dist-Office 4 & 5.
