OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate Democratic Leader Julia Kirt issued the following statement on Wednesday as Oklahomans plan to participate in peaceful protests on June 14, coinciding with others around the country billed as “No Kings Day.” The governor has issued comments on social media in reaction to those protests preemptively threatening to arrest participants.

“If you look at the history of this country, there is nothing more patriotic than people coming together to use their voices to speak out against those who seek to undermine liberty – that’s why the rights of free speech and assembly are enshrined in our nation’s Constitution.

“The governor has a bill on his desk that would help Oklahoma teachers and families afford college. Let’s focus on solving the problems that are actually happening in our state right now rather than trying to score political points.” – Senate Democratic Leader Julia Kirt, D-Oklahoma City.
