OKLAHOMA CITY – State Rep. Johnny Tadlock (R-Idabel) recently was honored by the Oklahoma Sheriff’s Association with a 2019 Legislative Award.
The honor was bestowed during a Legislative Awards Lunch on Aug. 9 at the Reed Conference Center in Midwest City.
“What an honor to be recognized by my fellow sheriffs,” Tadlock said. “I know the sacrifice these men and women make every day on the job and the incredible hard work they do to keep our communities and our citizens safe. It is especially gratifying to be recognized for the work I do on the legislative side to make their jobs easier.”
Tadlock was recognized for House Bill 1024, which cleaned up language from the recent change in alcohol law that would have prohibited off-duty deputies from working part time for convenience stores and grocery stores that sell alcohol. This change will now allow these deputies this opportunity and will result in a safer environment for these stores, he said.
In presenting the award, Ray McNair, executive director of the Sheriff’s Association, said many candidates for public office promise to support law enforcement on the campaign trail but then aren’t so willing to take tough votes once in office. The Legislative Award is meant to honor those who keep their commitment to support sheriffs when difficult choices have to be made, and Tadlock is an example of that.
Prior to running for office as a state representative, Tadlock served 28 years in law enforcement with the last 10 as Sheriff of McCurtain County.
