RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s awards for the opening weekend of the tennis season. Oklahoma Baptist Alex Bowers earned the Women’s award and Harding’s Morgan Silvan won his second-straight Men’s honor.
GAC WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Alex Bowers, Oklahoma Baptist, Jr., Duncan, Oklahoma
Bowers picked up two wins as the Lady Bison opened the spring season with a 6-3 victory against Washburn, the No. 9 team in the ITA Regional Rankings. She paired with Caroline Abbe to defeat Aly Burr and Madison Lysaught, 8-3, at No. 3 doubles and beat Alysha Nowacki in straight sets at the No. 4 position.
GAC MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Morgan Salvan, Harding, Fr., Millau, France
Salvan scored three singles wins and three doubles victories last week. After posting easy victories against Hendrix, he and Alejandro Sendra registered a doubles win against Drury’s Sebastien Amato/Gregor Kokalj, the No. 6 team in Division II, the highest-ranked doubles NCAA team Harding ever defeated. He earned two more points against Nebraska-Kearney.
