RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for the opening week of the women’s soccer season. Ouachita’s Bryson Thomas and Erin Webster collected the Offensive and Goalkeeper honors while Southern Nazarene’s Kiara Rodriguez earned the Defender award.
GAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Bryson Thomas, Ouachita, F, Sr., Hurst, Texas
Thomas recorded a goal and an assist in the Tigers’ 4-0 season-opening victory against Missouri Western State. She assisted on the first goal of the game when she provided a through ball to Carmen Scott for a seventh-minute goal. She scored in the 12th minute on an attempt from 12 yards out.
GAC DEFENDER OF THE WEEK – Kiara Rodriguez, Southern Nazarene, D, Sr., Phoenix, Arizona
Rodriguez helped the Crimson Storm split their opening two contests. She played 156 of the 180 minutes. Southern Nazarene limited Oklahoma Christian to one goal in its 2-1 win.
GAC GOALKEEPER OF THE WEEK – Erin Webster, Ouachita, Jr., Alvin, Texas
Webster opened her junior campaign by registering the 10th shutout of her career as she made six saves in Ouachita’s 4-0 victory against Missouri Western State. She also tallied six saves and allowed a pair of goals against Emporia State. She made 12 saves and posted a 100 goals-against average for the week.
