OSU Press Release

LUBBOCK, Texas – On Oklahoma State's second and final day of competition from Lubbock, Texas, Saara Hakanen's record-breaking performance in the triple jump and Ashton Hick's event win in the 600 yards shined brightest.

Hakanen put on a show from the field for the Cowgirls. The Kerala, Finland-native's 13.18m mark was enough to top a 17-year-old Cowgirl record held by Paula Ogunbanjo. Hakanen's new personal best earned her the fourth-place finish on the day and places her 5th in the Big 12 for the event this season.

Hicks earned his second-consecutive event win today in the 600 yards with a personal best time of 1:08.53 to go along with his event win in the same event from the Texas Tech Invite and Multis two weeks ago. The 2019 Indoor All American's time places him second in program history and first in the Big 12 on the season.

Freshman Kian Davis made his debut in the orange and black, earning the runner-up finish in the men's mile with a time of 4:19.15. Davis was joined in the top 10 by teammates Chris Middleton-Pearson, who finished in 6th place with a 4:25.06 run, and Nick Kenville in eighth, who crossed the line in 4:26.84.

In the field for the Cowboys, throws veteran Torrey Hickel led the Cowboys in the shot put. Hickel placed fifth with an indoor personal best 17.30m, a mark that places him seventh in the Big 12.

Middle distance racer Gabija Galvydyte had a particularly impressive day in the women's 600 yards, pacing the Cowgirls with a time of 1:22.59 and a fifth-place finish. Also in the top 10 of the event was Tori Ortiz in eighth (1:24.05), Michaela Travers in ninth place (1:24.14) and Nicolette Dixon crossing the line in 10th (1:24.25).

Capping off the weekend for the Pokes was the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Hicks, Justin Long, Cash Merutka and DJ McAruthur. The Cowboys finished sixth in the event, and their time of 3:10.21 marks the fifth-fastest in school history.

Up next for Oklahoma State track and field, a select group will travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina to compete in the Camel City Elite hosted by JDL Fast Track on February 19-20.
