Poteau Chamber of Commerce & City of Poteau Announces Jeff Shockley Memorial Golf Tournament Scheduled for September 25th

Poteau OK: The Poteau Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors have agreed to host a second Annual Golf Tournament this fall. Tournament organizers are working to make this tournament as unique as the man that it is named.  "No matter how horrible you are at golf because a bad day of golf is better than a good day at work and Jeff Shockley could make any bad day or a game of golf better with his contagious spirt and humor. This tournament will continue to honor him and how he wanted Poteau to continue to build it’s foundation, states Chris Ward Tournament Chairperson.”

Former Poteau Mayor Jeff Shockley loved playing golf and being with friends and business prospects. He loved showing off the area and the 2 golf courses. The Chamber wants to honor his name and help support a scholarship named for Shockley at Carl Albert State College who passed away suddenly in May of this year. Just like his love for golf he loved doing projects that helped make Poteau a more attractive City naming Poteau “above the ordinary”. The Chamber has chosen to use some of the proceeds for the Jeff Shockley Economic Development Community Fund for the projects in progress. The City of Poteau and The Chamber are working on a flagpole and garden area that will be located on Broadway in front of The Donald W. Reynolds Community Center. The Chamber Committee will look at other things needed downtown as well.

“Jeff Shockley had such a positive impact not only in his community and throughout the state we are happy to keep the legacy of his 20-year impact going. His passion was working with people and bringing the community together and building a strong foundation for Poteau’s future. Working with Jeff for the past years it honors me to carry on with what he loved, states Karen Wages, CEO.”

The tournament will be a 4-Man Team Scramble with Tee Time at 9:00 a.m. on September 25th at The Wolf Ridge Golf Club in Poteau. Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place teams with added bonus putts and a chance to drive off the famous Watson Motors Potty Driver. Merchants in Poteau are donating items for a raffle. Team Forms and Sponsor forms are available at the Chamber and online at
