Press Release

The 1st Annual LeFlore County Archery Tournament was held March 2nd & 3rd. National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) members Arkoma, Bokoshe, Cameron, Fanshawe, Hodgen, Howe, LeFLore, Panama, and Shady Point participated. Teams competed in two divisions, middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12).

Shady Point’s Brayli Beason and Arkoma’s Jacob Yates earned the titles of best overall female archer and best overall male archer in the county, respectively. The Howe Lions are the high school division county champions and the Shady Point Warriors are the middle school division county champions. Awards were given to the top overall female and male archers, the top three teams in each division, and to the top 6 females and males in each division. Team scores are calculated using the top 12 individual scores from each team, per NASP rules. The participating schools would like to thank Dewayne Hornbuckle with the Choctaw Nation for providing the medals and trophies for the winners.

NASP began in 2002 in Kentucky and has expanded across the United States the past 19 years. Currently, there are over 300 NASP member schools in Oklahoma. Local members hope to see the county tournament expand with more schools participating in the future.
