NORMAN – Oklahoma sophomore Tyler Hardman and junior Nathan Wiles were named the Big 12 Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, after leading the Sooners to a 3-1 record last week, the league office announced Monday.

Hardman, a native of Corona, Calif., hit two home runs and a triple, totaling nine RBIs at the Tony Gwynn Legacy tournament in San Diego, Calif.

In four games last week, the OU first baseman batted .429 with four of his six hits going for extra bases. His grand slam on Friday at San Diego put the Sooners ahead in the seventh inning, and he added a two-run triple in the ninth inning of the 6-1 victory. On Sunday he went the other way for a three-run home run to right field in the fifth inning against No. 24 Cal State Fullerton.

Wiles pitched 7.0 shutout innings in Oklahoma’s 1-0 victory at San Diego State on Saturday night. The Overland Park, Kan., native matched his career high with 10 strikeouts and allowed just four hits in the game. It was his second straight outing of seven innings to start the season. He is 2-0 with a team-low 1.29 ERA.

This is the second career Big 12 weekly honor for Wiles and the first for Hardman.

The Sooners (6-1) are home for six games this week at L. Dale Mitchell Park, beginning with a two-game midweek set against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Tuesday and Wednesday. First pitch is 3 p.m. for both games.
