HOUSTON – Sophomore Levi Prater dealt eight shutout innings, and sophomore Cade Cavalli and junior Brady Lindsly combined for five RBIs to lead the Oklahoma baseball team to a 6-0 series-clinching win over Rice Sunday at Reckling Park.

Prater (3-1) matched his career high with nine strikeouts over a career-long eight shutout innings, scattering three singles and a walk. He has pitched 14 straight scoreless innings over his last two starts for the Sooners (13-3).

Cavalli went 2-for-4 and doubled home two runs in the first inning. OU held onto the 2-0 lead until the eighth inning when Lindsly launched a moonshot three-run home run to open a 5-0 lead. Junior Brandon Zaragoza drove in the sixth run with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.

Prater put a bow on his outing by striking out the side in the seventh to strand a one-out single and then retired the side in order in the eighth inning. He allowed only two runners to reach second base, one of which went to second on an error.

OU earned its fourth shutout of the season. Senior Brylie Ware went 3-for-5 and scored two runs, and junior Brady Harlan was 2-for-4 at the plate. Rice starter Jackson Parthasarthy (2-2) took the loss for the Owls (7-10).

The Sooners return home to play UT Arlington on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
