RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s Players of the Week for third week of the basketball regular season. Ouachita’s Mahlon Martin and Southeastern Oklahoma State’s Kellen Manek shared the Men’s accolade while East Central’s Lakin Preisner and Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Hailey Tucker split the Women’s award.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mahlon Martin, Ouachita, G, Sr., Little Rock, Arkansas
Martin led the Tigers to a perfect weekend at the UAFS Thanksgiving Classic. In a 77-72 victory against the hosting Lions, he led five Tigers in double figures with 15 points and he dished out six assists. Against Midwestern State, he scored 20 of his career-high 28 points in the second half of an 82-73 win. He hit 9-of-14 shots, including 4-of-6 from the 3-point arc.
GAC MEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Kellen Manek, Southeastern Oklahoma State, F, So., Harrah, Oklahoma
Manek averaged 21.5 points per game in two wins at the River City Classic Tournament. In the opener against Texas A&M-International, he converted 4-of-7 shots in scoring 16 points. Against hosting St. Mary’s, he made four 3-pointers en route to netting 27 points. He has averaged 20.3 points and shot 55.9 percent from the floor through the season’s first three games.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Lakin Preisner, East Central, G, Sr., Americus, Kansas
Preisner helped the Tigers pick up a pair of wins at the Emporia State Thanksgiving Classic. After she opened the tournament with 13 points and seven rebounds against Northern State, she scored 31 points against UAFS. She became the first Tiger with 30 points in a game since Dilan Webster scored 31 against SWOSU on January 12, 2013. She also grabbed 10 rebounds.
GAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Hailey Tucker, SWOSU, G, Sr., Bartlesville, Oklahoma
Tucker picked up her 10th GAC Player of the Week honor after she averaged 26.5 points in wins against Cameron and Oklahoma Christian. She tallied 28 points and 11 rebounds against the Aggies. She made five 3-pointers in the 98-79 win. She poured in 25 points and went 10-for-17 from the floor against the Eagles. She needs 60 points to set the GAC career record.
CJ Elkins, G, Southern Arkansas (Scored 31 points in wins against two GSC schools); Tre Evans, G, Southwestern Oklahoma State (Averaged 28.0 points and 7.5 assists); Joseph Moorer, G, Northwestern Oklahoma State (28 points in win vs Meto State-Denver); Noah Starkey, C, Southern Nazarene (Averaged 14.0 points, 7.7 rebounds and 3.7 blocks in three wins); Camron Talley, G, East Central (Went 10-for-17, 6-for-12 on 3-pointers vs Pittsburg State); Darnell Wright, F, Arkansas-Monticello (23 points, 9-for-10 shooting against Centenary)
Autumn Avina, G, Oklahoma Baptist (Averaged 25.5 points and 9.0 assists); Bailey Brown, F, Northwestern Oklahoma State (16.0 PPG, 8.7 RPG in three games); Mackenzie Johnson, G, Arkansas-Monticello (Went 10-for-14, scored 25 points vs Mississippi College); Kellie Lampo, F, Harding (29 points, 11 rebounds, 11-for-16 at Cameron) Katie Webb, F, Southeastern Oklahoma State (25 points, 10 rebounds vs Texas A&M-Commerce)
