RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Great American Conference announced the league’s third weekly awards for the 2019 softball season. East Central’s Tarah Hilton and Southern Nazarene’s Mahina Sauer shared the Player accolade; Southern Arkansas’ Sydney Wader earned the Pitcher honor and Henderson State’s Abbie Moore claimed the Freshman award.
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Tarah Hilton, East Central, C/OF, So., Haslet Texas
Hilton led the Tigers four wins as she tallied five multi-hit games. After collecting two hits at Central Oklahoma, she went 10-for-15 against Newman and Pittsburg State. She doubled four times, drove in nine runs and scored five times. The Tigers averaged 10.0 runs against the Jets and Gorillas. She leads the GAC with a .577 average.
GAC SOFTBALL CO-PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Mahina Sauer, Southern Nazarene, 1B/DP, Jr., Mililani, Hawaii
Sauer came up with a pair of clutch hits for the Crimson Storm at the UCO/OC Festival. Against Newman, she capped a 3-for-3 day with the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning. One day later, she roped a game-winning double that scored two runs in a 4-3 win against Colorado-Colorado Springs. For the week, she hit .583, slugged .917 and drove in five runs.
GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Sydney Wader, Southern Arkansas, RHP, Jr., Vilonia, Arkansas
Wade picked up two wins at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic. She defeated Maryville by allowing one run and five hits over 6.2 innings of work. She struck out eight. She notched her second complete game of the year when she threw a four-hit shutout against Northeastern State. She struck out seven and did not walk a batter. She held the two opponents to a .188 average.
GAC SOFTBALL FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK – Abbie Moore, Henderson State, C/3B,
Moore helped the Reddies record three wins at the Alvy Early Memorial Classic as she went 5-for-14 with four extra-base hits. She doubled against both Maryville and Missouri-St. Louis on Friday. Against Missouri Western, she hit her first career home run. In the tournament finale, she hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the seventh inning against Emporia State.

Jacey Henry, RHP, East Central (Picked up three wins; defeated MIAA favorite Washburn); Destiny Riddle, RHP, Southeastern (Threw six-hit shutout against Northeastern State); Mabry Smith, RHP, Ouachita (Totaled 15 strikeouts in 11.1 innings of work); Brooklyn Sparkman, RHP, Southern Nazarene (Went 3-0 with 12 strikeouts in 12.2 IP)
Lauren Bazan, 3B, Harding (Went 4-for-10 with four stolen bases); Peyton Robinson, OF, Southern Nazarene (Stole six bases and scored five runs); Sarah Evans, SS, Southern Arkansas (Hit home runs against both Emporia State and Northeastern State)
