I want to congratulate Joe Mac and Heidi McAlester of Wilburton for being named the District 5 Oklahoma Farm Bureau Farm Family of the year. Joe Mac and Heidi are also outstanding community leaders and involved in many activities. Families like the McAlesters are all over rural Oklahoma and contribute immensely to what makes Oklahoma great.

This Thanksgiving Day, I will be volunteering with the Pittsburg County elected officials and serving Thanksgiving Day meals to anyone and everyone in Pittsburg County who desires one. There will be around 2,500 meals that will be picked up or delivered to those who can’t make the drive. I truly believe this is a great way to give back to our local community.

This time of year, I find myself thinking on the many things I’m thankful for. I’m thankful to live in Oklahoma and the United States, and I’m thankful to represent the great community of House District 17.

I’m especially thankful for the brave men and women who serve in our military, keep us safe and protect our liberty. I’m also thankful for the many civil servants who take care of us every day – law enforcement officers, firemen and other first responders, teachers, healthcare workers and so many more.

As we anticipate our Thanksgiving meal, I hope you will join me in reflecting on the many things we each have to be thankful for year-round.
