SWOSU’S Sala Wins Individual Title on Second Playoff Hole

FORT SMITH, Arkansas – Henderson State concluded a rousing performance at the 2025 Great American Conference Women’s Golf Championships by shooting the lowest round for the third-consecutive day to win the team title by 26 strokes on Tuesday from Hardscrabble Country Club. Southwestern Oklahoma State’s Freya Sala captured the individual title by defeating the Reddies’ Felisa Sajulga on the second playoff hole.

The Reddies became just the third team in any GAC sport to win five consecutive titles. They equalled the feat set first by the Henderson State men’s team from 2014 through 2018. Arkansas Tech’s women won five golf titles from 2015 through 2019. Sala won the first playoff since 2016 by making pars on the par-4 10th and par-3 17th holes. She became the second Bulldog to win the individual title, joining Elin Wahlin, who won in 2016.

Henderson State produced its best round of the week, a 13-over par 293. Sajulga, the league’s Player of the Year, collected four birdies as part of a 1-over 71. She birdied her final hole of regulation to force the playoff. Lily Nelson, Madolyn Kost and Cloe Poizac produced matching 4-over rounds. Nelson finished fourth overall and Kost tied for 10th. Paulina Narvaez shot a 5-over 75 and finished eighth.

Harding held off Arkansas Tech and SWOSU to finish in second place for the second-straight year. Sarah Kmiecik and Sydney Kincade registered top-six finishes after both turned in 4-over par rounds. The Golden Suns’ Jaylee Castro made a team-leading three birdies to move up to a tie for sixth. SWOSU’S Drew Dodgion joined Sala inside the top 10 thanks to three second-nine birdies.

Northwestern Oklahoma State finished fifth, led by a 12th-place showing from Romane Lacoste. Southeastern Oklahoma State moved up to sixth. Karen Kim tied for 10th and Carley Button shared 12th. Arkansas-Monticello claimed seventh. Shehna Akbary finished 14th.

Southern Arkansas took eighth followed by Oklahoma Baptist and Southern Nazarene. The Bison’s Morgan Simmons held the individual lead for part of the round before finishing alone in third, one shot out of the playoff. She made three birdies as part of a 2-over round.

The Reddies captured the GAC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Central Regional at Kickingbird Golf Course in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Lady Bisons, Golden Suns, Bulldogs, Bison, Muleriders and Blossoms appeared in the most recent region rankings. The NCAA announces the field on Monday.
