Betty Black, passed away on September 14, 2025, at her home in Poteau, Oklahoma with her family by her side. Betty was born on October 24, 1936, in Poteau, Oklahoma to parents William and Alvessie (Qualls) Nelson. Betty was very strong willed and a hard worker. She was one that spoke her mind, and you always knew where you stood with her. She could be found all around Poteau, selling her famous pumpkin and banana nut rolls. She had a servant’s heart and was always caring for someone in need. Betty was loved by all that knew her and will be dearly missed.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her children, Timothy Alan Davis, Richard G Nelson Sr, Charles R Mashaney, and Billy L Mashaney, her grandchildren Jason L Davidson and Richard G Nelson Jr, and her siblings Delbert H Nelson, Homer L Nelson, Patsy L Mills, Charles A Nelson, and Billy M Shadwick.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Vickey Garoutte and husband Dick of Poteau, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Judy Davis Carpenter, Jerry Davidson, William Nelson, Shawna Woodard, Cory Mashaney, Shanelle Mashaney and Dusty Davis, her 32 great grandchildren, numerous great great grandchildren, along with other nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives and friends.

The Celebration of Life Services for Betty will be announced when all details are finalized.
