The gates open at 9 am Friday on the 2018 Honobia Bigfoot Festival and Conference.
The event is Oct. 5 and 6 in the beautiful Kiamichi Mountains Christian Mission (Christ 40 acres), Highway 144 and Indian Highway, Honobia, Ok.
They’ll be celebrating everything Bigfoot: the fun, the folklore and the search for Bigfoot.
Saturday begins with a 5K race/1 mile walk at 8 am.
Festival, conference, camping and race information is at honobiabigfoot.com. The event raises funds for scholarships to graduating high school seniors.
There is no fee to get into the festival, though visitors may make voluntary donations to the Mission.
Visitors can view Bigfoot country in helicopter rides or enjoy 9-hole miniature golf, an archery booth, kids’ zone, and the mining company.
Bigfoot stories will be shared around the campfire each night, including Oklahoma sightings. Some brave campers stay all night in the woods.
If you’ve seen Bigfoot prints, you can learn to preserve these at 3:30 pm Friday in the Track Casting Class.
For those simply seeking Sasquatch fun, the Bigfoot Outpost has official event t-shirts, caps and window decals. There are hourly drawings.
A music show in the “Steel Tent” will feature regional and local talent.
There will be a church service Sunday and everyone is welcome.
Honobia is a well-known hot-spot of Bigfoot sightings that attracts visitors from foreign countries, television crews and those who hope to catch a glimpse of the elusive beast.
The Conference offers leading Bigfoot researchers. The Southern Bigfoot is of special interest, including local sightings. Jerry Hestand, author of “Hunting Apes in America: My Life as a Bigfoot Hunter,” will tell of his encounters, including an up-close sighting in the woods near Octavia, OK. Lyle Blackburn, M.K. Davis and Ken Gerhard are speakers who are well-known to Bigfoot searchers.
You might even see a festival Bigfoot lumber through the event. He is tame enough to pose for photos.

The Honobia Bigfoot Organization is a non-profit group dedicated to bringing scholarships to deserving students in towns in the Honobia area. They partnered with the Chahta Foundation and the local Masons. They currently provide scholarships to Smithville, Battiest, Clayton, Talihina and Buffalo Valley.
