March is Women’s History Month. This year’s national theme is Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future. There are many websites chronicling the contributions of women in the past, but this year theme focuses on the future. According to the National Women’s History Alliance website, “Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future” expands our understanding of sustainability beyond just environmental concerns. It encompasses financial sustainability, community resilience, leadership succession, and intergenerational equity. Whether developing green technologies, advancing economic justice, strengthening education systems, or building civic power – women are designing blueprints for sustainable transformation. This theme affirms that shaping a sustainable future means fostering systems that support both people and the planet.
We at Oklahoma Welcome have decided to focus the first eleven days on the contributions of Oklahoma women who paved the way for future generations of women to succeed in various areas of life. Each day, we will share a different woman and her contribution on our Facebook page.
