Cyndi Munson (D-OKC)

OKLAHOMA CITY – House Democratic Leader Cyndi Munson, D-Oklahoma City, released the following statement after the Governor’s most recent executive order to audit public education funding.

“This recent executive order to audit public education funding is not a solution to get Oklahoma public schools out of our dead last ranking in the nation,” said Leader Munson. “The governor continues to advocate for eliminating the cap on the Parental Choice Tax Credit, which we know only further redirects public funds to private schools. Public school funding dollars are already tracked and reported. Meanwhile, private schools do not have to follow the same transparency and oversight protocols as public schools. Looking for places to make cuts to public education is not the answer to improving student outcomes. We must eliminate the Parental Choice Tax Credit and redirect the $250M in public funds to our public schools for teacher and support staff pay increases, counselors in all of our school districts, and funding to the funding formula for literacy and other academic programs to improve outcomes. We need to put the needs of our public schools first, not attacking them.

My question to the governor is this: Where is the executive order to audit private schools?”
