By Rep. Jim Grego

“Looks Like We Made It.” This popular song title pretty well sums up this primary election cycle. Most dollars spent; worst negative ads in my memory. I am appreciative of the fact that we maintain our two party primary process in Oklahoma. There was a push to change this recently to where the top two vote getters would proceed to the general election regardless of party. This is a practice in some states, and I do not support this change. Again, I thank the voters in House District 17 for reelecting me by acclimation.

Dirt is flying on the Indian Nation Turnpike. If you have driven it of late, you’ll notice the work at the Scipio exit. When I first went into office, this was a priority of mine, to have greater access to this turnpike. Being able to travel south from this exit is the first step. Movement is being made on the Blanco site for access. The wheels of government often turn slowly, as this has been an eight-year project in the making, but I commend all the fine folks at the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority for this progress.

I attended a McAlester Chamber breakfast last week and gave a legislative update from my prospective. They had a good crowd of McAlester leadership eager to listen to the latest from 23rd and Lincoln. One of the biggest local concerns seems to revolve around the proposed data center south of Kiowa. This really is a local issue as you weigh the environmental impacts versus the tax dollars received in the local economies. Another public meeting is scheduled at 6 p.m. June 22 at the McAlester Expo Center.

As always, thank you for allowing me to serve. If I can help you in any way, I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
