Public Access Plentiful for Turkey Hunting

Hunters interested in turkey hunting over the course of the next month as the spring season gets underway April 16 – May 16 have numerous public access lands available, whether through Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) owned or operated by the Wildlife Department or through the Oklahoma Land Access Program (OLAP). See more information below, and also check out the ODWC’s Turkey Hunting Resources webpage for more useful information.

Wildlife Management Areas

The Wildlife Department owns and/or operates more than 100 WMAs across the state open for hunting. You can view a list of WMAs to find one in your preferred location here. Use the list to find opens hunting seasons on each WMA as well as area-specific rules and regulations.

Oklahoma Land Access Program

Through OLAP, the Wildlife Department partners with landowners to create public hunting and fishing access on private lands. Landowners are rewarded for conservation-minded practices, and hunters and anglers have even more places to go. To hunt on OLAP properties, hunters must possess a Land Access Permit through their Go Outdoors Oklahoma profile.

OLAP functions differently than private land and Wildlife Management Areas, so it is important to understand the rules and regulations for OLAP properties accessing them. OLAP is broken down into several different access types, each with its own set of regulations and allowable activities. Check out the OLAP webpage for information, locations, maps and everything you need to know to get started.
