Congratulations Norah Kenedy!
Deer Creek Elementary’s Norah Kenedy earns the Sooner State’s sole honor for 2025-26 school year.
OKLAHOMA CITY – May 4, 2026 – AAA Oklahoma recently recognized Norah Kenedy, a fourth grader at Deer Creek Elementary School in Edmond, with its AAA Outstanding Safety Patroller of the Year award. Norah is the only School Safety Patroller in the state of Oklahoma being honored with the award this year.
“AAA Oklahoma is pleased to recognize Norah Kenedy with the AAA Outstanding Safety Patroller of the Year award because of her excellent work in keeping fellow Deer Creek Elementary students safe, her commitment to go above and beyond the normal duties of a patroller, and her positivity and respect for others that demonstrates the true spirit of what it means to be a AAA School Safety Patroller,” said Shawn Steward, public affairs manager for AAA Oklahoma.
“According to those who nominated Norah,” Steward said, “she has a quiet, thoughtful leadership style, anticipating needs, and ensuring all patrollers are on their post and ready for their shift. She helped increase before- and after-school interaction among students and demonstrated compassion, leadership and mature initiative when she assisted someone who had slipped and fallen on a wet floor.”
Other words nominators used to describe Norah included “composed, respectful, confident, approachable, role model, work ethic and compassion for others.” And according to Steward, “One nominator wrote that this patroller is “not only dedicated to our patrollers, but is well rounded in all aspects” of life, including activities, church and family, as well as being “tenacious” in work as a student and citizen. The nominator continued, describing this patroller as “the most trustworthy, humble” example of a AAA Safety Patroller.”
As part of his recognition, Norah received an engraved award plaque, a certificate of achievement, a special gold Safety Patrol badge to wear on her patrol belt, a gift pack of AAA and Safety Patrol items, and a gift card.
The AAA School Safety Patrol at Deer Creek Elementary, part of the Deer Creek School District, is under the leadership of patrol advisor Kathryn Szallar and principal Laura Koehn.
For more than 100 years, the AAA School Safety Patrol has been the world’s largest school-based safety program. Patrollers around the world provide school-aged children an extra sense of safety and security during the school day’s busiest times: arrival and dismissal. As a peer-to-peer leadership development program, Safety Patrols are trained to recognize safety hazards to create a safer school environment. The presence of a AAA School Safety Patroller wearing the familiar belt & badge is a nationally recognized symbol representing more than 679,000 children throughout the country who participate in the program each year.
