Late night driving.

There’s several stories about cowboys driving all night being dead tired that I will always remember, but my favorite is the one about  Danny and Patricia Hamilton.

They had been on the road for a few days, driving day and night from rodeo to rodeo. Trisha (as Danny called her) was driving and she told Danny she needed him to drive awhile because she was getting really sleepy. So he asked her if she could make it to the next gas station. She did, and he went inside and bought a cup of ice.

He came back to the truck handed her the cup of ice and said this ought to keep you awake for awhile- and he went back to sleep.

I was at Danny and Patricia’s house when this story was told. There was several of us there and we all had a good laugh. Patricia said she was mad enough at him that she drove on a good while. Danny said he was tired and have to have some sleep. There’s a bunch more stories about Danny and Trisha.

I’ve never been brave enough to pull that on my wife. I give credit to Danny and Patricia’s relationship, because I’m fairly sure my wife would’ve dumped the ice all over me- or worse. That’s the best part of rodeo, when you get old you’ve got lots and lots of cool stories.
