State Rep. Jim Grego
By Rep. Jim Grego
Time flies when you’re having fun, and this session has flown by. I am hopeful we will complete our bill work this week and sine die next week. This would be one of the earliest endings to session since I have served. We are sending many bills to the governor for his signature, and hopefully everything will stay on the tracks this year.
One bill that has gotten a lot of attention as of late is House Bill 2992, which will attempt to force large load electricity users to fund some of the expansion cost up front rather than the utilities passing it down to all consumers at a later date. I am a co-author on this legislation. I believe it will help us all should some type of large load user locate in our area. An amendment was filed on the Senate side last week, and my phone started ringing as constituents were upset. It‘s ironic that a constituent was aware of the amendment even before I was. This is a good example of the importance of the public being aware. The amendment was rejected, and I believe we still have a good bill. Hopefully, we can get it signed into law.
Senate Bill 133, which I agreed to be House author of, went to conference committee last week. The Senate substituted their language creating the Southeast Scenic Rivers Commission, naming four rivers in Southeast Oklahoma as scenic rivers. This is an attempt to protect these water bodies from being industrialized. I could not get the required signatures to move it out of conference committee. This will be a priority of mine next session as we must protect our natural resources in Southeast Oklahoma.
I was privileged to have another page this week. Emma Brady from Eufaula is a junior at Canadian High School. She served in my House office and did a fantastic job.
Please keep Representatives Brian Hill and Tim Turner in your prayers as both have lost their mothers in the recent weeks. The pain from such a loss can be unbearable at times.
As always, I’m thankful to the constituents of House District 17 for allowing me to serve. If I can help you in any way, I can be reached at (405) 557-7381 or by email at jim.grego@okhouse.gov.
Jim Grego serves District 17 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives. His district includes Latimer County and part and Pittsburg County.
