Lois Mae Smedley

Lois Mae Smedley, 87, of Poteau, Oklahoma, passed away on May 14, 2026, in Poteau, Oklahoma. She was born on November 24, 1938, in Lovings, Oklahoma, to Early Blufford Churchill and Willie (Cline) Churchill.

Lois was united in marriage to James L. Smedley on May 12, 1956. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed caring for her family and home throughout her life.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James L. Smedley; three brothers, Clinton Churchill, Clifford Churchill, and Bobby Churchill; and five sisters, Violet Adair, Irene Tedder, Marjorie McGuffin, Wilma Prince, and Gladys Fessler.

Survivors include her son, Brian Smedley; grandchildren, Tammy Attaway, Sarah Martin, and Shannon Smedley; great-grandchildren, Taylor, Isaac, Isabelle, and Isaiah; as well as many other loving family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Scott Martin, Vance Smedley, and Loney Gregory.

Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Smedley, Larry Gregory, and Doug Gregory.

Funeral service for Lois Mae Smedley will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma with Phil McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at Monroe Cemetery in Monroe, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
