OSU Medicine named official sports medicine provider for OSU Athletics

The “team behind the team” provides expert care to OSU student-athletes and patients across Oklahoma

(TULSA, Okla., Sept. 3, 2026) — Oklahoma State University Medicine is now the official sports medicine provider for OSU Athletics, strengthening a partnership that provides Cowboy and Cowgirl student-athletes with comprehensive medical care focused on injury prevention, treatment, surgery and recovery.

OSU Medicine’s orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine specialists and primary care physicians work alongside OSU Athletics coaches and athletic trainers to care for more than 500 student-athletes. The same physicians and surgeons trusted by OSU Athletics are also available to high school athletes, AAU players, competitive athletes and active individuals across Oklahoma.

“When OSU student-athletes compete at the highest level, they need an exceptional medical team behind them,” said Dr. Johnny Stephens, president of OSU Center for Health Sciences. “This partnership brings together the strength of OSU Medicine to support our athletes while extending that same Cowboy-level care to families across Oklahoma. The physicians and surgeons trusted by OSU Athletics are available to care for athletes and families, right here in the Tulsa area.”

OSU Athletic Director Chad Weiberg said providing student-athletes the highest level of medical care and training services to stay healthy or recover from injury is among OSU’s highest priorities.

“We are fortunate to have the partnership with OSU Medicine and excited to extend and continue to grow this partnership. This is Cowboys supporting Cowboys at its finest,” Weiberg said.

OSU Sports Medicine includes 17 physicians and healthcare providers specializing in orthopedic surgery, sports medicine, emergency medicine, family medicine, behavioral health, concussion management, and physical medicine and rehabilitation. The multidisciplinary team works with athletes before, during and after competition, helping prevent injuries and coordinating diagnosis, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation.

“Working with OSU Athletics means understanding what our athletes ask of their bodies and what it takes to help them perform safely at their best,” said Dr. Jason Moore, OSU chief of sports medicine. “We work closely with coaches and athletic trainers to help prevent injuries and respond quickly when an athlete needs care. Whether we are treating a Division I student-athlete, a high school competitor, an AAU player or an active parent, our goal is the same: provide the right care at the right time and help each patient return safely to the activities they love.”

The partnership reinforces OSU Medicine’s growing reputation for high-quality sports medicine care. OSU physicians treat joint, muscle, tendon and ligament injuries as well as concussions, neck and back pain, osteoarthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions. Services include sports physicals, diagnostic evaluation, nonsurgical orthopedic care, ultrasound-guided injections, osteopathic manipulation, orthopedic surgery and rehabilitation.

OSU Sports Medicine also serves as the official sports medicine provider for professional sports organizations FC Tulsa and the Tulsa Oilers.
