Mary was born on September 12, 1946, in Hackett, Arkansas, to Silas Cothran and Katherine (Shelton) Cothran. She passed away on October 25, 2026, in Spiro, Oklahoma, leaving behind a lifetime of beautiful memories and a family who loved her dearly.
Mary was a woman full of life, love, and personality. She had a natural gift for making people feel welcome and never met a stranger. Whether she had known someone for years or had just met them, Mary could strike up a conversation and make them feel like an old friend. She loved to sing, dance, play the piano, and paint. Her creative spirit and love for music brought happiness to those around her, and she had a way of making even the simplest moments memorable.
Above all else, Mary’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was being a mother and “Mimmie.” Her family was truly the center of her world, and she devoted her life to loving, nurturing, and caring for those she held dear. She took great pride in making sure her children and grandchildren never wanted for anything, always putting their needs before her own. Her love was unconditional, her door was always open, and there was always room for one more person in her heart. Mary was a mother figure to so many beyond her own children, offering love, guidance, encouragement, and a sense of belonging to anyone who needed it. She had a special way of making everyone feel like family.
Being “Mimmie” was a title Mary treasured deeply. She found her greatest happiness in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, sharing in their laughter, and surrounding them with the kind of love that only a grandmother can give. Her family never had to question how much they meant to her because she showed them through her words, her actions, and the countless little things she did every day.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, and cherished memories. She will be remembered for her welcoming heart, her lively personality, and the unwavering devotion she had for her family. Though her presence will be deeply missed, the love she poured into so many lives will continue to be felt for generations to come.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Silas and Katherine Cothran; her son, Donald Underwood; grandson, Dustin Underwood; great-grandson, Nathan Restine; brothers, Ronnie Cothran and Lonnie Cothran; and her longtime life partner, Wayne Werschky.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Susan Underwood; sons, Dewayne Underwood and Clifford Underwood; grandchildren, Krissi Restine and partner Jeremy Smith, Bryant Underwood, Katie Hamby and wife Jennifer Hamby, Xavier Underwood, Max Underwood, and Miakoda Underwood; great-grandchildren, Alison, Amara, Dustie, Kallan, and Lynlee; bonus children, Tim Werschky and wife Trena, Andy Werschky and wife Sandy, and Diane Clark and husband Jason, along with their families; sister, Glenda Dobson; sister-in-law, Jenell Cothran; very special friend, Darin Morgan and partner Blake Webb; father of her children, Glynn Underwood; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loved ones.
Mary’s life was a beautiful reminder that family is not always defined by blood, but by the love we give and the lives we touch. She loved with her whole heart, gave without hesitation, and made the world a little brighter for everyone fortunate enough to know her. To her family, she was their everything, and to so many others, she was simply “Mimmie.”
