According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol a Poteau woman drowned after she drove her car into a flooded creek crossing which swept her vehicle off the road.
The drowning occurred on June 23, 2019 at approximately 4:27am on Gilmore Rd, one mile north of State Highway 83 at Sugar Loaf Creek, approximately three miles south and six miles east of Poteau in LeFlore County.
The body of Vickie Darnell, 64 of Poteau was located out of the vehicle in the creek at 7:05 am from an air boat and recovered at 7:40am.
The incident was Investigated by OHP, Leflore County Sheriff’s Office, Howe Fire Department and Monroe Fire Department
