Effie Minks of Rock Island, Oklahoma was born July 25, 1920 in Midland, Arkansas to Tom and Mae (Powell) Barnes, and passed away August 16, 2019 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 99.
She is survived by her son, David Minks and wife Becky of Rock Island, Oklahoma, brother, A.J. Barnes and wife Donna of Pocola, Oklahoma, seven grandchildren; Brian Minks and wife Jackie of Poteau, Oklahoma, Cynthia Myers and husband Bradley of Poteau, Oklahoma, Teresa Eaton and husband James of Pocola, Oklahoma Kevin Minks and wife Amanda of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Steven Minks of Pocola, Oklahoma , David Minks and wife Melinda of Van Buren, Arkansas, Melissa Bennett and husband Rick of Fate, Texas, 12 great grandchildren; Britt, Brandan, Jerrett, Bryson, Hunter, Parker, Maci, Savanna, Seth, Samantha, James, Sara, 4 great-great grandchildren; Tatum, Tenley, Mila, Ava, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and loved ones.
Ma loved to sell Items at the Flea Market and attended Trinity Baptist Church in Pocola.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Tom and Mae Barnes, husband, Leonard Minks, son, Wayne Minks, two brothers; Willie Barnes, Dude Barnes, and two sisters; Liza Lowery and Ethel Pickering.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, August 19, 2019 at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro, Oklahoma with Reverend Roger Myers officiating. Burial will be at Macedonia Cemetery in Pocola, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro, Oklahoma.
Pallbearers will be; Britt Minks, Brandan Minks, Jerrett Demory, Bryson Myers, Hunter Myers, and Parker Minks. Honorary Pallbearers will be; Billy Don Sweeten, Bobby Don Post, Carol Barnes, Buttons Slate, and Rayford Lowery.
Viewing will be at the funeral home Sunday from noon until 5:00 p.m.
