Funeral Service for Eula Mae Nelson, 81 of Wister, Oklahoma will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Bethel Baptist in Wister, Oklahoma with Jeff Dodd, and Randy Ginther officiating. Burial will follow at Ellis Chapel Cemetery in Wister, Oklahoma under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
Eula Mae was born on January 8, 1942 in Wister, Oklahoma to Inez (Call) Covey and Bill Covey and passed away on September 17, 2023 in Wister, Oklahoma. She was married to Jerry Nelson on May 10, 1957 in Wister, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Nelson; three sisters, Flora Nichols, Christene Adams, and Ellen Whitmore; two brothers, Jack Covey, and Ed “Sonny” Covey. Eula was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. She liked to camp,she collected many cookbooks, and she was an excellent cook. Eula loved to tell stories and have people laugh with her. She could talk on the phone for hours with anyone who would listen. She loved God, Jerry, her kids, and grands most of all. She never really wanted to be anywhere else but home in Wister surrounded by her family and friends, doing little things to take care of them. She was known to everyone that she loved as Mema.
Survivors include her three daughters, Rita Jones and Norman Benson, Brenda and husband Jack Martin, Nikki and husband Phil Hamlin; two sons, Freddy and wife Pat Nelson, and Eddie and wife Lisa Nelson; special nephew, Carroll Covey; grandchildren, Eric, Wade, Jake, Amber, Ashlie, Autumn, Chrissy, Tyler, Whitney, Justin, and Bailie; 21 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Nelson, Shawn Goad, Wes McGowen, Tripp McGowen, Wade Knight, and Trey Knight.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Ridge McGowen, Jake Knight, Eric Mclain, Vallen Nelson, Andrew Ginther, Hayden Wellman, Justin, Philip, and Ozzy Hamlin, and Carroll Covey.
Visitation will be in Wister at the family home of Eula and Jerry on Thursday evening. Please come and join in an informal gathering to share memories and love of Eula Mae. 506 Highland Ave. Wister, Oklahoma 74966.
