Gerald (Jerry) Maxwell, 84, of Shady Point, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Jerry was born in Panama, Oklahoma to Arnold and Alice (Duck) Maxwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 57 years Phyllis and one son Michael.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Kim and Tim Staggenborg of Manchester, Missouri; family of the heart, Steve and Kim Hughes of Shady Point, Oklahoma. Six grandchildren, Emily & (Tyler) Cagle, Lauren & (Clarence) Warren, Mira Staggenborg, Grant Staggenborg, Erin & (Donavon) Baldridge, Andrew Staggenborg; one special great grandson Tripp Cagle; sister Linda Organ; sisters-in-law Cathy Fullen and Sharon Johnson and lifelong friends Joe and Jerry Herbert.
Jerry was a heavy machine operator, welder, rancher and jack of all trades. He was a deacon at Calhoun Baptist Church and loved the Lord. He enjoyed working on or breaking his tractors, raising cattle and other farm animals, eating ice cream and watching wrestling on Friday nights to the dismay of his family and friends. He was a kind and caring man who loved his family, friends and all children, especially his grandkids.
Visitation will be on Sunday, February 26 from 4 to 6 PM at Evans and Miller funeral home in Poteau. Services will be at 2 PM Monday, February 27 at Calhoun Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Hughes officiating.
Pallbearers will be Grant Staggenborg, Andrew Staggenborg, Jeff Cooper, Tyler Cagle, Scott Organ, and Jackie Harris. Honorary Pallbearer, Joe Herbert. There will be a meal at the church at 12:30 prior to the service and all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to either Calhoun Baptist Church building fund or The Gideons International.
