Gregory “Greg” Don Smith age 65, of Pocola, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away to his heavenly home Saturday, January 13, 2024. Greg was born and raised in Pocola, Oklahoma. Following his high school graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. When he returned home Greg found employment at Whirlpool where he was a devoted employee for 26 years. After his time at Whirlpool, Greg was happiest on the tractor tending to his beautiful hay meadows or gliding across the dance floor.
He attended worship at Community Bible Church in Fort Smith. It was there he joined a small group that became more like family than friends. Greg held his faith, family and friends in high regard. He never met a stranger and was never ashamed to share his faith with anyone. Greg was most often described as a christian, hard worker, hay expert, polished two-stepper, master turkey smoker, true patriot, storyteller extraordinaire, and always remembered significant dates. Greg proudly supported his family in all they did and he could most often be found providing entertainment with his stories at family functions.
Greg is survived by his nephews and nieces, Jason Smith and wife Jerry Lynn of Berryville, AR; Amber Wertz and husband Brad of Madison, MS; Brandi Brogan and husband Jody, Dallas Smith and wife Michelle, all of Alma, AR; numerous great nephews and great nieces, and sister-in-law Terry Smith. Greg was preceded in death by his loving and devoted parents Josh and Edna Smith and brother, Phil Smith.
Visitation will be Thursday 5:00-7:00 January 18th at Evans and Miller Funeral Home Pocola, Oklahoma.
Funeral service will be 9:30 am Friday, January 19th, at Community Bible Church 9201 Dallas Street Fort Smith with burial following at the National Cemetery at 11:00am.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Roll, Harper Billingsley, Ronnie Smith , Dewayne Thompson, Don Minot and Allen Ward. Honorary pallbearers fellow Navy Shipmates on the USS Inchon and The Breakfast Club.
