Hester Gargus of Spiro, Oklahoma was born on June 27, 1924 near Nubbin Ridge to John and Jesse (Estes) McCann, and passed away January 3, 2019 in Fort Smith, Arkansas at the age of 94.
She is survived by her son Gary Gargus, his wife Pandora Gargus, and her mother Barbara Skinner; grandson, Joel Gargus; nieces, Barbara Rhodes and Faye Ward and her husband, Daryl Ward; great niece, Tammy Vines and her daughters, Brooklyn Curbow and Alexandra Curbow; nephews, Bud Cosgrove and John McCann; nephew-in-law, Lendel Vines; and numerous additional relatives and loved ones.
Hester was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jesse (Estes) McCann; husband, Kelly Gargus; sisters, Cassie Cosgrove, Atha Williams, Lois Rhodes; brothers, Earl McCann, Lewis McCann, and niece, Deanna Vines.
Her family remembers her as a strong, hard worker. Her skill as a gardener symbolized her nurturing personality and wise counsel. Most importantly, she’s remembered for her exceptional passion and love for her family. Throughout her life, she never hesitated to give everything she had so that her family always had everything they needed, and never expected anything in return.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Mann, Bud Cosgrove, David Barbee, Junior Saulsberry, and Jerald Ortleib.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Mallory-Martin Funeral Home Chapel in Spiro, Oklahoma with officiating Reverend Robert Hill.
Burial will follow at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home in Spiro, Oklahoma.
