James Wesley Dameron, 83, passed away on May 1, 2025, in Springdale, Arkansas surrounded by his family. James was born on April 12, 1942, in Poteau, Oklahoma to parents Wesley and Bessie White Dameron. James attended Poteau High School, where he graduated in 1960. After high school, James was a service member of the Army National Guard for over 6 years. He built many homes in the LeFlore County area with Bob Dorey Construction. After working many years in construction, James decided to take a job with KCS Railroad and worked his way up and was Conductor before eventually retiring. James married Diana (Baker) Dameron in 1970, and they had two children, Christy (Dameron) Johnson and Brian Dameron. James loved to turkey hunting, fishing in Gilmore with the Garrett’s and Cooper’s, listening to Conway Twitty, watching westerns, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a huge football fan (especially the Oklahoma Sooners). In 1986 James married Bonnie Dameron and the two were wed until her passing in September 2011. They enjoyed traveling and watching football together.
James was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Diana Dameron, and his second wife Bonnie Dameron.
James is survived by his son Brian Dameron and wife Misty of Bentonville, Arkansas, his daughter Christy (Dameron) Johnson of Poteau, Oklahoma, his granddaughters Blake Dameron and Parrish Lin Dameron, his grandsons Keelan James Dameron, Niklas Rose, and Trey Krebbs, his very special great granddaughters that he was blessed enough to meet Mia Grace and Ivory James, and his stepchildren Linda Larson, Vickie Buchanan, and Wayne McCabe, along with many other relatives and friends.
The Celebration of Life Services for James will be held 1pm – Monday, May 5, 2025, at The Cedars on Dewey 520 Dewey Ave Poteau, Oklahoma with Pastor Phil McGehee and TJ Holt officiating and burial to follow at Vaughn Cemetery in Gilmore, Oklahoma. The Family of James Dameron will greet friends at the conclusion of the service, before going to Vaughn Cemetery for a private family interment. Casket bearers will be Trey Krebbs, Keelan James Dameron, John Garrett, Jared Garrett, Jeremiah Carter, and Ronnie Humphries. Honorary Casket bearers will be Gary Garrett, Houston Lambert, Cliff Vinson, Jackie Cooper, and Donald Lee Garrett.
