Lois Francis Smith was born on November 11, 1929, in Latham, Oklahoma, to John R. Barnes and Virgil (Brown) Barnes. She passed away peacefully on July 12, 2026, in Spiro, Oklahoma, at the age of 96.
Lois was a devoted Christian woman whose faith guided her throughout her life. She was a loving wife, a dedicated mother, and the heart of her family. She was known for her remarkable cooking, her generous spirit, and her green thumb—she could grow just about anything. Her home was always a place of warmth, good food, and love, and she leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work, and unwavering devotion to her family.
She is survived by her two sons, John Smith of Shady Point, Oklahoma, and Ronnie Smith and wife Lisa of Wister, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Brad Smith and wife Rachel of Shady Point, Oklahoma, and Heath Smith and wife Jayla of Wister, Oklahoma; two great-granddaughters, Carson Smith and Wren Smith; and one great-grandson, Canon Smith.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Howard Smith; her grandson, Mike Smith; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Smith; four brothers, Isaac Barnes, Art Barnes, Olen Barnes, and Carl Barnes; and two sisters, Betty Russell and Margie Wiles.
Lois will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her. Her love, faith, and gentle spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
Funeral service for Lois Francis Smith, 96, of Spiro, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Evans & Miller Chapel in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Taylor Pollard officiating. Burial will follow at Shady Point Cemetery in Shady Point, Oklahoma, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau.
