Wishing Mike was writing this obituary because we all know he was the orator in the family. Alzheimer’s took his oratory skills, along with his memories, and finally took him to heaven where he is rejoicing in the arms of all our family.
Mike was raised in California but, during his time at Oakdale High School he migrated to Texas with his family. He took to that migration like ducks take to water. He made his life there, married his first wife Carolyn and they shared three children together. In July of 1988 Mike married the love of his life, Rose. He then lovingly became a Dad to six.
Mike and Rose enjoyed many exciting years riding Harley Davidson’s and participating in a Harley Davidson’s Christian group. The love they shared was a rare gift to be admired.
In October 2005, Mike and Rose packed up their belongings in Amarillo, TX and moved to retire on the Hamner homestead in Heavener, OK. There they built their beautiful home from the ground up with their own hands. They created their own little piece of heaven where they enjoyed raising their newly acquired sons, Justin and Jace. The love that went into their home was felt by all those who came to visit.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, J.F. (Jeff) and Daisy Hamner, his brother, Pat, and his brother-in-law, James.
He leaves behind his sweet wife, Rose, the love of his life, who gave her complete love and support throughout their 30 years together until he took his final breath.
He also leaves behind his sister Linda(Chuck), children; Brian(Tiffny), Philip, Carrie, Lori, Tammy (Tim), Jeremy, Justin, Jace, his sister-in-laws Rosie and Carol, and brother-in-law Mike, 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and countless other friends and family who will miss his presence in their lives.
A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, April 13th at the original Hamner homestead, 28077 Welch Loop, Heavener, OK (across from the Reichert Fire Station).
Mike, while we grieve your presence in our lives, we also celebrate your complete restoration as you rejoice in the reunion with all those waiting for you at heaven’s gate.
“What we have once enjoyed deeply we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” – Helen Keller
