Nowatema was born on May 14, 1931, in Bristow, Oklahoma, to Cleo Grace (Woods) Anderson and Lafe Riley Anderson, and passed away on December 10, 2025, in Talihina, Oklahoma.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herman (Hodo) Wylie; her son, Charles Martin (Dusty) Wylie; her son-in-law, Alton Carpenter; her brother, Kenneth Anderson; and her sisters, Naun Earle Barnes, Juanita Burnett, and Mildred Sue Derrick.
A devoted member of Summerfield Baptist Church, Nowatema served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher for all ages, from children to adults. She was also active in the Busy Bee Quilting Club, where she shared her skills, creativity, and fellowship with many. Tema was known by many as ” Aunt Red ” or ” Memaw.”
She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Carpenter; grandchildren, Kendall Carpenter and wife Carie, and Raenita Carpenter; four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Merzel Watkins of Parker, Colorado; and numerous nieces and nephews.
