Sharon was born on January 12, 1944, in Heavener, Oklahoma, to Estle and Pluma (Fortner) Allison.
Sharon gave 29 years of her life to teaching while expanding the hearts and minds of countless students. Her love for education and genuine care for those she taught left a lasting impact that will be remembered for generations. Many former students continue to remember her long after they left her classroom, a testament to the difference she made in their lives.
Those who knew Sharon will remember her fiery spirit and stubborn determination. She was strong-willed, outspoken, and never afraid to stand her ground, yet beneath that strength was a loving heart devoted to her family, friends, and community.
Sharon was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Poteau. Her personal relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the foundation of her life and guided her with faith, love, and compassion.
She is survived by her husband, Jimmy Simmons, of the home; her daughter, Sherri Stone and husband, Doug, of Poteau, Oklahoma; and her son, Shane Simmons and wife, Tina, of Caddo, Oklahoma. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Ryan Simmons and wife, Lacee, Harlie Simmons, Dylan Stone and wife, Taylor, Allison Zertuche and husband, Justin, Haleigh Stone, and Drew Stone; great-grandchildren, Emery Simmons, Liam Lynn, and Ava Lynn; her sisters-in-law, Kathy Forehand and Patricia Allison; brother-in-law, Gary Ollie and wife, Kay; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, her beloved teaching family, her cherished church family, and all whose lives were blessed by her kindness, compassion, and unwavering love.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Cledith Allison; her brothers, Donald Allison and Marvin Allison; her brother-in-law, Mark Simmons; her granddaughter, Bailey Simmons; and her dearest friend, Betty Plumlee.
Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Simmons, Dylan Stone, Drew Stone, Mark McMillin, Gary David Ollie, and John Perry.
Funeral service for Sharon Kay Simmons, 82, of Poteau, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Evans Chapel of Memories in Poteau, Oklahoma, with Phil McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at Reichert Cemetery in Reichert, Oklahoma, under the direction of Evans & Miller Funeral Home of Poteau, Oklahoma.
